ZABALA is a Spanish SME (over 150 employees) that has a wide experience in supporting entities in the management of their RTD and innovation activities, as well as in technology transfer projects and initiatives. It is a consolidated RTD and Innovation consultancy firm working across Europe on these fields since 1986. It currently provides, on a contract basis, consultancy services related to RTD and innovation management to a portfolio of 600 organisations (including SMEs, big companies, RTD centres, universities and public organizations).

Zabala team

Mr Miguel García BEng in Industrial Organisation and BEng Computing at University of Deusto. He has a solid background on project management. He started his career as software developer in different SMEs, then in SAP as a technical consultant and then moved into ZABALA where, over the past 4 years, he has been involved in the management side of different EU projects within FP7-ICT and CIP ICT PSP programmes. He is responsible for ICT (data related) calls in the organisation. His work involves the establishment and management of large consortia, amendments, budgets and constant communication with the EC.

But besides these activities he is currently leading the Open Data strategy of the company and is the technical coordinator of different internal projects on data provision for ZABALA. During the last year he has authored a report for the EPSI Platform, acted as a panellist for the Open Data on the Web event by the W3C, has chaired a networking session in ICT2013EU event titled "The Business of Open Data", acted as panellist in "How will big data yield a new economic sector?" session and is currently part of the Users Board in the FP7-ICT-COMSODE project.

Mrs Blanca Rodríguez BEng in Telecommunications at Universidad Pública de Navarra. During the past 12 years she has worked in ZABALA where she is the EC-ICT calls manager and responsible for the people working on this area. She is mainly specialised in information society technologies, working as consultant and co-ordinator of projects. She has participated in the elaboration of over 20 European proposals and coordinated 4. She is currently the project manager in ZABALA of FP7-COWIN. She has been evaluator and reviewer for the EC 5 times since 2007.

Mr Albert Alonso: Bachelor in Telecommunications Engineering at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (2006) and Master of Science (Msc) by the University of Pennsylvania (2012). He worked as intelligence analyst for 4 years in Infocenter analyzing technologies and technical documentation to determine future trends. He also developed solutions and recommended new products, processes or market strategies to clients. After studying in United States he started working in ZABALA as R&D consultant where he has been applying his previous experience to write successful proposals and to efficiently manage R&D projects. He has 2 years of experience working at regional, national and European level being actively involved in proposals submitted to Life, CIP, FP7 and H2020 programs.

Hub Innovazione Trentino (HIT) is a nonprofit corporate consortium with limited liability, whose stakeholders are University of Trento, Bruno Kessler Foundation, Edmund Mach Foundation and Trentino Sviluppo S.p.A. and whose assets are contributed by the Autonomous Province of Trento and by the stakeholders themselves.
The scope of HIT is to promote and enhance research results and innovation of the Trentino region in order to foster local business development by joining forces with all local actors in the innovation field.
As an innovation catalyser and within its technology transfer activities, HIT aims at: scouting of innovation opportunities, at national, European and international level, for its stakeholders and, indirectly, for the territory of the Autonomous Province of Trento within the smart specialization thematic fields; promoting the regional territory as one of the major European research, innovation and high education hubs; enabling the transformation of Trentino into a competitive and dynamic knowledge economy.

Veronica Barchetti - HIT - Veronica Barchetti is Business Analyst in the New Business Creation Unit of TrentoRise, the Italian research-education core partner of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) ICT Labs ( She holds a Master in International Management and a Bachelor in Business Administration from the University of Trento, Italy. Moreover, Veronica attended classes in in business & ICT at Åbo Akademi University in Turku - Finland - where she enhanced her knowledge in tech. In the past, Veronica worked for an e-commerce start-up company based in Barcelona as an Online Marketing Manager. Since June 2013 Veronica works in the New Business Creation team in Trento Rise as Business Analyst & Financial Advisor at TechPeaks Program (, the public and international accelerator program for ICT start-ups based in Trento, Italy ( Her main tasks are supporting TechPeaks startups and monitoring their performance in the acceleration phase and in the business growth afterwards.

Maurizio Napolitano - FBK - Maurizio Napolitano is Head of unit Digital Commons Lab at FBK's Centre for Information Technology. He's the co-­founder of the Open data Institute node based in Trento. He's involved as senior expert advisor in several Open Data projects. He's interested in processes of collective knowledge creation such as Wikipedia, OpenStreetMap and the open source community. He represents the Open Knowledge Foundation in Italy, he is the president of the Italian Linux Society, board member of, member of ASSOLI and LinuxTrent.

Francesca De Chiara - FBK - Francesca De Chiara is a social researcher in the Digital Commons Lab, a research unit established by FBK's Centre for Information Technology. She's co­founder of the Open Data Institute ­Trento Node. She holds a PhD in Sociology and Social Research, has research experience in the field of development studies, open data and open government. Former visiting scholar at Cornell University and Warwick Business School, she is an active member of the Open Knowledge Foundation Network, author of academic articles published in international journals such as "Information technology for development", referee for the European Journal of Political Research. Recently she has been country reviewer for the Open Data Barometer, a research report by Web Foundation and the Open Data Institute. Since February 2013 she actively collaborates with the Open/Big Data group in Trento RISE – Trentino Open Data project.

Copenhagen Business School

Copenhagen Business School (CBS) was established in 1917. Today, with 20,000 students and 1,500 employees, CBS is one of the largest business schools in Europe and one of the 8 Danish Universities. CBS covers both social sciences and humanities.

The Department of IT Management conducts research within the following research areas related to information technology and information systems: design, implementation, use and exploitation, information management and the internet of things and big data. Jose Manrique Lopez de la Fuente - ASOLIF - An Industrial Management Engineer, mainly involved in research and project management focused on mobile, Web technologies and Free / Open Source Software, passionate "Mobile Open Source Software and Web" evangelist and involved in ICT4D (ICT for Development) projects and initiatives in the past. Part of W3C Mobile Web Initiative, in the early days of the "Mobile Web".

Currently involved in Asolif (Spanish Open Source Associations Federation) ( as executive manager and in Bitergia ( as business and marketing developer. Collaborating with some Open Source Software communities and initiatives through research and dissemination of their technologies.

KIH team

Mr. Ivan Häuser is a is a Ph.D. in linguistics, project manager and a management consultant with his own company. His is engaged in developing and marketing apps for reading skills in cooperation with the publishing house Alkalaer. He lectures on Psychology of Leadership to American Students at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad. His experience as a management consultant is being used for raising funds, organizing workshops and managing projects on the Internet of Things. He helps companies develop business models and leading their organization. He has been manager of EU projects within the field of telecommunication and capacity building in Russia, Kazakhstan and Albania.
